Interesting topic, Nona.
When I got Bart and Victoria, Victoria's name was "Zoe". Due to lack of human contact, she didn't know it, so, based on "Victoria the White Cat", from the musical, "CATS", I changed her name to Victoria. It fit better. Bart, seemed like Bart Simpson, so I left it alone (his full name became, "Bart, Quit it!").
Skipper was just so bouncy and full of energy that it just seemed to fit (not that it mattered, he was deaf and it didn't matter what you called him).
Buddy came to me as "Twitter", and that was long before the internet "Twitter" became popular. Again, due to total neglect, he didn't know his name either. He was just to big and laid back to be called that; it's like calling Hoss Cartwright (of "Bonanza" fame) "Twitter" - it just don't fit. Not to mention that, if he got loose, I really didn't want to be running the neighborhood yelling "Twitter!".
I just held him and said, "Lord, what am I gonna call this new little buddy?" "That's it", I heard, so, "Buddy" came about. It fits.
Nipper came with that name, and since he knew his name, I left it alone. It's from when you scratch his back, how he goes into that little little front teeth nipping thing on your arm.
Victor didn't know his name either, and was being called "Snow" or something like that, so I named him after Victoria.
NoNo came with that name, and since she knew it, I left it alone. The people I got her from said that name, along with the name of her dead brother, "DingDing", came from two cartoon characters, but I don't know which cartoon.
That's it.
